This blog has been quite quiet recently, in part to the end of last semester being a rush of finals and never-ending deadlines and also in part to my departure from the US for three weeks to spend some time back in the UK with my family for the holidays. Despite the quantity of work pushed on us at the end of last semester, it came to an end and I managed to do quite well in all my classes. I also attempted to get some ski days in amongst the work. We’ve have quite a few dumps of snow here over the last few weeks, and on Finals week we had a perfect powder day. Snowbird had at least 25″ of snow over the last 24 hours and I had never experienced such a big snowfall before. In Europe, after a big snowfall the snow is still pressed down to create flat and civilised slopes. Over here, nothing was groomed. After the huge dump of snow, the mountain was just a playground for all those who are lovers of powder. Therefore, it was up to you to choose your path through the huge amounts of snow. Although it was an awesome experience, my legs were not used to it and I need to have a few more powder days under my belt to feel comfortable with this new way of skiing! With more time this semester, I’m hoping to be up on the slopes at least once a week, hopefully twice, and therefore make good use of my season pass. I went today for my first ski of 2016 and the weather was nearly perfect. Good conditions, and sunny skies. The only downer was the wind that came in the afternoon meaning the resort had to shut early. Oh well, back on Friday! It was lovely to go back home for Christmas and I made the most of being around my family and friends from home again. I made sure I left with an overweight suitcase filled with a semester supply of cadbury and maltesers! This semester has already kicked off, with my classes and internship already demanding a lot from me. However, I’m ready for the challenge and the new adventures that await me in 2016.
I’m particularly excited for my 21st birthday this Friday as I’ll finally be able to drink legally all over the world! I’m hoping to bring in my fully adult life with a day skiing and a night experiencing my first bar in the US. I’m looking forward to the new semester and seeing what these next 5 months will hit me with!
