One big difference between Swansea and Utah is... Sports. They love it here. Whilst at Swansea, we only really dedicate one day to our sporting teams, here everyone gets behind it on a weekly basis. So far I have watched, American Football, Women's Soccer, Women's Volleyball and Ice Hockey. There is always some sort of game going on and it seems one of our favourite past-times is going to cheer on the Utes. First, Football, American Football, to be exact. Although I had watched two super bowls in the past, I had little to no clue what was going on when the Utah vs Michigan game kicked off on September 3rd. However, after a lot of questions to my friends, I think I've got the hang of it. I'm part of the MUSS (Mighty Utah Student Section) and therefore have a seat for each home game this season. It's a great atmosphere, and even though I might get lost with the game, the enthusiasm of the students around me makes it fun anyway. I've now watched two football games at home, Utah vs Michigan and Utah vs Utah State, both of which we won. I've also watched the other two games so far this season in the comfort of our building and watched the Utes dominate Oregon yesterday with a 62-20 win. We are now 10th in the Pac 12 league and the excitement that it's caused on campus is infectious. I also watched Ice Hockey for the first time on Friday and really enjoyed watching it. It's a lot more fast paced than field hockey and it helped that we beat our biggest rivals, BYU by 10-1!! However, soccer is a game I'm a lot more familiar with. I've now watched two games, one which we won and one that we lost, however both were fun games. The volleyball is also a new sport that I've never seen played before and it's also an exciting one to watch and get behind. We are also planning on watching the Basketball and Gymnastics when the seasons start and I'm excited to get behind the Utes at these games!! One thing is for sure though, I need to get some more Utah swag, as I clearly don't have enough!! I've also been keeping up with British sports and have been watching the Rugby World Cup when I can. I have to say, that Oregon win made me feel a lot better after England losing to Wales earlier on in the day!
I've got two more weeks now until Fall Break and am looking forward to going to Colorado and exploring Denver and Fort Collins! But until then I have two weeks of deadlines and midterms before the fun can begin!
